Oasis make an announcement amid feverish reunion speculation

New posts on Oasis’ official social media accounts are sending fans wild with speculation that the Manchester band could be on the verge of a reunion this week. But a new announcement made today may provide some answers to the cryptic posts.

On Monday night a video posted to Oasis’ insta sent fans into a frenzy, showing Sawmill Studios where the band recorded their debut Definitely Maybe 30 years ago.

That post was followed up on Wednesday night with another video showing the iconic Oasis logo, and video clips of Liam and Noel Gallagher talking about the album.

The clips have fueled speculation that the brothers could be about to reunite and bring Oasis back together for the first time since their acrimonious split in 2009. Fans have been flooding social media with calls for answers – and begging the band to get back together.

But on Thursday morning, a new statement from the band explains the reason for the critical posts this week. And it’s all to do with a new release from the band to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sure Maybe.

The band said in a statement: “Today we announce the format details of a new album to celebrate Oasis’ iconic 1994 debut three decades after it was first released.

“Available on 30th August 2024, in Definitely Maybe (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) format contains tracks from the original session set aside at Monnow Valley Studios, together with outtakes from the seminal album recorded at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall, newly mixed for the first time by Noel Gallagher and Callum. Marino.

“Also on the album is a demo version of Sad Song. Originally released as a bonus track on the LP, this alternative version features vocals from Liam Gallagher.

“The package also features brand new artwork by original Microdot art designer Brian Cannon and original sleeve photographer Michael Spencer Jones, as well as new sleeve notes from Creation Records boss Alan McGee and journalist Hamish MacBain.”

Fans were quick to note the fact that the iconic view from a house in Didsbury featured on the original album appears on the new album cover – but without any of the band members.

The statement continued with more details about the album saying: “In August 1994, the release of Sure May was a turning point in British youth culture, with Noel Gallagher’s singing and the cacophony of Oasis’ assured sound bringing together a new beginning. It embodied a mood completely new. rock and pop – hedonistic, guitar-driven and optimistic.

“There was a sense of change and hope in the air in the United Kingdom, soon to be torn apart by 18 years of Conservative rule, and Oasis captured that mood.

“After signing a worldwide contract, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll headed to Monnow Valley studios on the Welsh borders in Monmouthshire, to record the kinetic energy of their live shows.

“At the time, the initial recordings felt too technical and polished, and failed to capture the essence of the band. The sessions were eventually scrapped, and the band moved to the remote confines of Sawmills Studios in Cornwall to -album was re-recorded, with Owen Morris added to complete the final mixes, Definitely May was created.

“The Monnow Valley recordings and Sawmill outputs, now discovered for the first time, provide a new and powerful understanding of the process that led to the finished article.

“With raw edges and relentless energy, Sure It may have always felt like a fully formed album – but the newly revealed versions give fans a great new insight into the album; reflecting the self-belief that fueled Oasis’ early years. and the determination it took to create their debut.

“Shelved until now, revisiting the archive 30 years later reveals the importance of the recording process in telling the story of the uneasy creation of one of the most important albums of all time.”

When it was released in 1994, Certainly May topped the Official UK Albums Chart and became the biggest selling album of all time at the time. Supersonic, Shakermaker, Live Forever and Cigarettes & Alcohol featured singles, while tracks such as Rock ‘n’ Roll Star and Slide Away have become ubiquitous worldwide anthems.

The album is now BPI certified 8 times platinum in the UK, selling over 6.1 million copies worldwide and the second Most Streamed Official Album of the 90s in the UK, beaten by its successor (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?.
