Maps show where the UK will be hottest amid a yellow heat health alert warning

Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 31C this week as a yellow heat health alert is issued for most of England.

The wet weather that defined the first half of June was replaced by high temperatures that could pose a risk to vulnerable people.

The Met Office said temperatures will rise steadily as the week progresses, with highs of 28C on Monday but up to 31C on Thursday.

The yellow heat health alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), is in place across eight regions in England from 8am on Monday until 5pm on Thursday. All areas of England except the North East are included in the warning.

The threshold goes from 25C in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to 28C in London and parts of southern and southeastern England.
