Fashion trends inspired by the early adventures have returned time and time again in recent years, proving that the 2000s cannot be shaken. As Millennials and Gen Z satisfy their analysis of nostalgia, styles not seen in recent years have emerged on social media and, in many cases, on the runway.
Last year, the latest data from Google also proved that the craze of the 2000s has not died – in fact, searches for Y2K-related trends reached an all-time high in 2023.

Ballet flats
The rise of balletcore brought a natural revival to one of the favorite footwear trends of the Millennium. Brands like Sandy Liang and Miu Miu have released ballet flats in recent seasons, and mary jane styles are inspiring the off-duty dancer.
Puka shell necklaces
Puka shell necklaces are a hit thanks to the popularity of the “island girl” aesthetic, which has become popular on TikTok and Instagram.
low-rise waistlines
Low-rise pants and skirts were all the rage in the 2000s, and celebrities favored belly-filing bottoms. The controversial trend was revived two decades later when labels including Stella McCartney, Versace and Diesel sent low-rise designs down the runway for the spring 2023 season.
Uggs
Uggs took off in the 2000s, with stars pairing the comfy shearling slippers with everything from velor tracksuits to bedside micros. Calf-length ugg boots were the most popular style for the past decade, but these days, shorter styles are in. Ugg minis and the brand’s Tazz slippers are current sellers.

Leg warmers
The ballet fad has also taken off again in leg warmers. Knit socks that first became popular in the 80s made a brief comeback in the 2000s before making a comeback in the 2020s.
trucker hats
Trucker hats were the go-to chapeau of the famous team in the early 2000s, with Von Dutch and Ed Hardy flourishing on mesh caps with patches and edgy graphics.
nameplate necklaces
Thanks in part to Carrie Bradshaw from HBO’s “Sex and the City,” nameplate necklaces were all the rage during the new millennium. Last year, they were among the top Y2K matches on Google.
Bell-bottom
Basics first became a trend in the 1970s, but were brought back in the 2000s. Today, brands including Gucci and Veronica Beard have embraced the retro-inspired fad.
Cargo pants
Cargo pants became a style staple in the 2000s. As it turns out, baggy trousers with lots of pockets were a big runway trend during the spring 2023 season, with LaQuan Smith, Isabel Marant and Givenchy reviving the cargo hit.
Denim skirts
Denim skirts of all lengths were popular in the 2000s, with stars favoring mini, midi and maxi styles. In 2023, the ever-popular indigo textile appeared on the runways of Bottega Veneta, Blumarine and Givenchy, while Courrèges and Alberta Ferretti ushered in the 2000s by discussing microminiatures on the runway.
Platform flip-flops
Flip-flops were taken to new heights in the ’90s, and platform sandals were a staple in the early 2000s. Today, labels including Coperni, Gia Borghini and Loewe have released their own versions of the platform flip-flops, and flat variations of the casual beach sandal have appeared on the runways of Miu Miu and Chanel during the spring 2024 season. .
Unlimited frames
Rimless sunglasses were popular among star singers such as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Eve early on. These subtle colors have now made a comeback thanks to brands like Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Gentle Monster, who recently debuted similar styles.
Butterflies
Mariah Carey’s iconic Emanuel Ungaro butterfly top has been off for years. Today, the fashion legacy of the colorful insects lives on, with Versace and Blumarine recently releasing collections featuring butterfly motifs.
