The Championship table is as tight as ever and Rovers are among a number of clubs who still have work to do to ensure safety heading into the last eight.

Eustace’s men will be keen to get points on the board in the coming weeks, starting with a tough test against promotion hopefuls Ipswich on Good Friday.

How does Rovers’ run-in compare to the sides around them? The Lancashire Telegraph after looking at all the clubs in and around the bottom three and what they can expect from the last eight games.

DAMAGE

Current situation: 16th

Form: LWDWW

Remaining fixtures: West Brom (H), Rotherham (A), Huddersfield (A), Leicester (H), Cardiff (H), Sunderland (A), Plymouth (H), Swansea (A)

Neil Harris returned to the Millwall dugout last month following the sacking of Joe Edwards and has already won against Southampton, Watford and Birmingham.

The Lions also drew 1-1 at Ewood Park earlier this month, with Michael Obafemi’s debutant canceled out by Sam Szmodics.

With games against Rotherham, Huddersfield and Plymouth looming before the end of the season, the London club have ensured that their destiny is firmly in their own hands and they will be back themselves to build on recent results.

Millwall are also hoping that Tom Bradshaw will be back to join the run. The Wales international has not featured since the Southampton win due to injury.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

Plymouth have won just one of their last nine league games and the pressure is mounting on Ian Foster, who took charge at Town Park in January following Steven Schumacher’s move to Stoke.

The Pilgrims cruised to the League One title last season but still have plenty of work to do if they are to preserve their second tier status.

Upcoming games against Rotherham, QPR, Stoke and Millwall could be season-defining for the Devon club as they battle against the drop.

Morgan Whittaker’s performances have been key for Plymouth this season, having found the net 18 times in the league so far.

CITY OF STOKE

Current situation: 19th

Form: LWLWL

Remaining fixtures: Hull (A), Huddersfield (H), West Brom (H), Swansea (A), Sheffield Wednesday (A), Plymouth (H), Southampton (A), Bristol City (H)

It has been a challenging season at Stoke but recent wins against Middlesbrough and Preston have given the Potters hope that they can pull themselves out of trouble.

Schumacher received plenty of praise for his work at Plymouth but had a difficult start to his time at the bet365 Stadium after replacing Alex Neil.

The Stoke boss is set to face his former side on April 20 – a game which could have a major impact on the relegation battle.

Wednesday’s games at Huddersfield and Sheffield also look big on paper, although tough tests are coming up against the likes of West Brom and Southampton.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS

QPR were five points adrift when Marti Cifuentes took charge in October but now they are a few places above the drop zone going into the final block of games.

The Hoops stunned Leicester’s hopefuls earlier this month, making a statement to their relegation rivals.

Since then, they have picked up a few points against West Brom and Sunderland and their chances against Birmingham on Good Friday will be looking up.

The London outfit will be keen to get points on the board before the end of the season, with their last four opponents in the top nine.

CITY OF BIRMINGHAM

Current situation: 21st

Form: LLLDL

Remaining fixtures: QPR (A), Preston (H), Leicester (A), Cardiff (H), Coventry (H), Rotherham (A), Huddersfield (A), Norwich (H)

It has certainly been a remarkable season at Birmingham. Eustace started the campaign in the dugout but was sent off to bring on Wayne Rooney – a decision which received a lot of backlash from sections of the fans.

Rooney lasted just 83 days in charge before being replaced by Tony Mowbray. However, it was announced in February that the former Rovers boss would be taking a step back to receive medical treatment.

Assistant manager Mark Véneas was in charge of the team in Mowbray’s absence but the results have been poor in the last month.

Birmingham have now turned to former boss Gary Rowett for the last eight games in the hope that he can steer the club to safety.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

Current situation: 22nd

Remaining fixtures: Coventry (H), Stoke (A), Millwall (H), Preston (A), Bristol City (A), Swansea (H), Birmingham (H), Ipswich (A)

It’s tight at the bottom of the table and Huddersfield find themselves in the bottom three on goal difference.

The Terriers are another club that have changed managers in recent months, with Andre Breitenreiter succeeding Darren Moore at the John Smith’s Stadium.

There was plenty of hope when the new boss overcame a 2-1 win over Watford in his first game in charge on 24 February.

However, the Yorkshire club have failed to build on that performance and are winless in their last four games.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Current situation: 23rd

Form: LLWWW

Remaining fixtures: Swansea (H), Middlesbrough (A), QPR (A), Norwich (H), Stoke (H), Rovers (A), West Brom (H), Sunderland (A)

Sheffield Wednesday were largely written off after winning just one of their opening 11 games under Xisco Munoz.

However, the Dutch have picked up since the arrival of Danny Rohl in October to give themselves a chance of getting out of the last eight.

Rohl’s side secured three vital points against Plymouth at Hillsborough earlier this month. However, their confidence was boosted after a 6-0 drubbing at Ipswich before the international break.

Wednesday against Ewood Park April 20. QPR and Stoke also have to play before the end of the season as they look to pull off a great escape.

ROTHERHAM UNITED

Current situation: 24th

Form: DLLLL

Remaining fixtures: Preston (A), Millwall (H), Plymouth (H), West Brom (A), Swansea (A), Birmingham (H), Bristol City (A), Cardiff (H)

It’s been a nightmare season for Rotherham, who need a near-miraculous exit to even have a chance of survival.

The Millers are 19 points up going into the final block of games and have won just three league games all season, conceding 77 goals in the process.

Leam Richardson was introduced after Matt Taylor’s sack, but the change made little difference to the outcome.

Rotherham’s last win was against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day. They also beat Norwich and Coventry earlier in the campaign.
