Here’s why that’s good news for Helldivers 2 players

There’s good news and bad news for Helldivers 2 players, although in this case it’s basically the same. The bad news is that 12 Super Earth scientists at the Dark Fluid Research Facility were, uh, “spaghettified” after the volatile material suddenly and without warning fell into a “micro black hole.” The good news is that this unfortunate incident has some players convinced that the arrival of the Illuminate, the third enemy faction that has been absent so far in Helldivers 2, is imminent.

We’re going to be talking about leaks and spoilers here, for the record, so stop reading now if you want to avoid things like this.

Let’s start with the episode:

The spaghettifying Dark Fluid is being weaponized by Super Earth scientists for use in the war against the Terminids, and specifically the Terminid Supercolony on the planet Meridia: The brief for the latest major order states that Helldivers will use the substance to ” carry out a targeted strike to “. to permanently end the threat of Supercolonialism.”

The synopsis also reveals where Dark Fluid came from, and here’s where things get interesting: “Dark Fluid is a type of synthesized alien material released by the Illuminate after the First Galactic War.”

The time has come to face the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia. Using an experimental substance weaponized by our best scientific minds, the Helldivers will launch a targeted strike to permanently end the threat of Superhumanity. The scientific minds of Super Earth were gathered on Moradesh to weaponize a highly classified experimental substance known as Dark Fluid. Dark Fluid is a type of synthesized alien material liberated from the Illuminate after the First Galactic War. Making scientific progress, our scientists used it to engineer a solution to the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia. The first phase of this operation is to secure a route to Meridia, and hold the staging ground until sufficient quantities of Dark Fluid can be armed and deployed. This is the priority: all other territorial losses are acceptable to ensure the success of this operation.

The technologically advanced Illuminate were one of the three enemy factions, along with the Terminid and Automatons, of the original Helldivers, but are notably absent from Helldivers 2. Their return is widely assumed to be non-issue. “if,” but “when,” as various leaks and rumors suggested that reports of the annihilation of the Illuminate at the hands of Super Earth may have been greatly exaggerated.

Some of those leaks appear to have been spot on. One, reported by The Gamer in April, showed a planet – believed to be Meridia – exploding. The original leak has since been deleted, but the same leak also revealed a “Dark Fluid Containment Device” and a “Dark Fluid Research Station” that some players theorize is connected to the creation of a black hole leading to the destruction of the planet. That black hole, so the line of thinking goes, is what draws the Illuminate back into the fight.

Meridia, as noted, happens to be the target of the new Helldivers 2 Grand Order:

Helldivers 2 Grand Order - Make a path to Meridia to pave the way for their salvation.Helldivers 2 Grand Order - Make a path to Meridia to pave the way for their salvation.

Helldivers 2 Grand Order – Make a path to Meridia to pave the way for their salvation.

Another leak, posted to Reddit in March, contains multiple Illuminate references, notably the presence of “Lightning energy readings in the area around the singularity created by the Dark Fluid.” In a perfect Super Earth way, it seems that history is being rewritten: Rather than being annihilated by the military might of Super Earth, the text in the leak says that humanity has “allowed the Illuminati to flee The Galaxy. Now they’re back. Why? Because they hate peace.”

This new Spaghetti episode looks like the Illuminate is about to make a comeback, but it looks like Helldivers 2 is following that path. Even without all the supporting evidence (or a strange coincidence), developer Arrowhead is clearly developing something. And there’s certainly precedent for good news to be very bad: April 1st’s big victory at Malevelon Creek was immediately followed by a massive invasion of Automaton gunships and walkers, and the “Termicide” gas was the final victory. to achieve. over the bugs really make things all much worse.

We may not have to wait too long to find out. The current major order seems to be doing well: Angel’s Venture is under control, Fenrir III is halfway there, and in an hour Turing has gone from 2.8% free to 6.6% – still a long way to go go, but the democracy seems to be managed. be progressing rapidly. When that’s done, Meridia – and whatever it brings – will be waiting.
