A US player has garnered millions of TikTok views with her positive reactions to reading the Harry Potter books for the first time.

Kierra Lewis, known for her ‘spicy’ reviews of erotic literature, started posting TikToks after discovering the JK Rowling series last year. Since then she has been on an emotional – and often tearful – journey following the plot twists of the wizarding world.

Lewis, 28, from Nashville, Tennessee, has amassed 1.5 million followers on the platform through her #BookTok content and is known for her emotional connection to literary characters – but saw her reactions to Harry, Ron and Hermione’s adventures at Hogwarts her following to build a cult.

Apparently she was skeptical about the hype around Harry Potter, she added in one of her first videos: “I’m taking notes on the damn book I thought all the wizards were hyping up the sh*t this. I thought you were being dramatic the way I am already caught up in this story.”

She has since posted 67 videos chronicling her journey through the seven-book series, admitting that she “cried a lot” at more emotional moments, with The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire appearing to be the installments she was most impressed.

So far, Lewis has posted 67 videos reviewing the popular series and has even started watching the movie adaptations. In her first review, Lewis said she finally understood the cult following the series had created. She said: “I’m taking notes on the damn book I thought everyone was a wizard hyping up the shit. I thought you were being dramatic in the way I’m already caught in this story.”

After finishing Prisoner of Azkaban, the third book in the series which was originally released in 1999, Lewis said: “Can I say, I was very surprised by the emotional pull this book had on me; I cried many times.” Lewis first started Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in December 2023 and has completed the fourth book in the series, The Goblet of Fire, where the story gets darker for Harry Potter and his two famous friends in battle against Voldemort.

A recent video from Lewis’s TikTok shows her reacting to the death of Cedric Diggory, who was famously killed in The Goblet of Fire during the Triwizard Cup. Sobbing as she read the story about Diggory (played by Twilight star Robert Pattinson in the Harry Potter films), she said: “I don’t know what I was expecting, but my baby Cedric, Edward Cullen is gone , not what I was. f****** wanted.”

It seemed that her recent journey through the fourth book was so emotional for Lewis that she lost her eyelashes from crying so often. Lewis’s 1.5 million TikTok followers responded to her viral Potter posts with a mixture of admiration, amusement and concern for her future for the final three books. One poster said: “I’m so scared for you for the rest of the series”, while another replied: “Girl you have no idea the pain that comes after this book.”

Another commenter said: “Friend. Take a break. Please take a break. It will get more real as each book goes on.” As more people chimed in, someone else wrote: “Honey, take a break, book 5 is losing like hell :(“

Lewis now has three books left to read on his emotional rollercoaster. First up is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth installment in the series – which is much darker than the previous installment – before the final two books, The Half Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows, were released in the United Kingdom in 2007.

Which Harry Potter book is rated as the best in the series?

The Harry Potter series has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 80 languages, with JoyBird research showing that the final book, The Deathly Hallows, is the most popular book in the US. seven.

It appears to be the same in the UK, where 67% of people surveyed by YouGov in 2017 have read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. According to that survey, the books lose popularity as the series progresses. The percentage of readers decreases for the final book, The Deathly Hallows, as only 53% of those asked said they had read it.

Research carried out by TES in 2020 found that although primary school children had all seven books in their top ten, the same could not be said for older pupils. Not a single Harry Potter book was in the top ten of middle school children.

On February 26, a first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone sold for more than £11,000, with the original buyer buying it for 13p. The book is a second hand proof copy purchased in 1997.
