by Lloyds Banking Group will close 123 of its UK branches in 2024 and around 1,600 jobs will be cut across its network as part of the move towards online banking.
The group, which owns Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, said only 8% of its customers choose to visit high street branches as the only way to manage their money, while more than 21 million customers use banking online or mobile.
A spokesman for Lloyds said: “As more customers choose to manage their day-to-day banking online, it’s important that our people are available when it matters most. We are introducing a number of new roles and making changes to our teams branch so. our customers can see us how and when they want.”
The aim of the new teams is to improve the Lloyds service and that more customers will be able to contact the bank without having to wait for appointments as often, he said.
The redundancies are not expected to affect junior employees, and in some cases staff will be offered voluntary redundancy.
