“A machete went through our bedroom door… I knew I had to jump out the window with my baby”

A terrified mother had to jump out of her bedroom window clutching her three-month-old baby in her arms after armed men burst into her home in the early hours of the morning.

She was sleeping upstairs with the newborn and her husband at around 3.30am when the family were suddenly awakened by the sound of the kitchen window being broken downstairs.

Within seconds, the three thugs had gained entry. It is claimed that the dad had to close the bedroom door as one of the burglars tried to break it down, kicking him and piercing the wood with a huge machete.

The new mum, who was recovering from a c-section after giving birth just three months ago, says she had no choice but to jump out of the upstairs window of her Dukinfield home, with her newborn in her arms, before she landed. glass shards outside.

Her husband also jumped, before they ran into a neighbour, bleeding and injured, and emergency services were called to the scene on Barlow Road, on the morning of August 23.

Both were left injured and required surgery, while their child suffered only minor cuts and bruises.

Speaking to the MAnchester Evening News, The mother described the terrifying ordeal as ‘freezing’, but all she could think about was saving her little boy.

“We heard the sound of our kitchen window being smashed and before we could even react, the sounds of footsteps running upstairs,” she said.

“My husband put the baby down on the bed and ran to close our bedroom door. I grabbed the baby and watched him use all his strength to keep the door closed because the man on the other side trying to kick it down and get in.

“I looked outside and saw two people wearing black in our garden. I started screaming that I had a baby and screaming for the police and for help, when they heard me screaming they ran away.

“In that moment everything was a blur. It was a blur to call the police, the screams for help were a blur.

“The other person at our bedroom door was trying to kick the door down, shouting racist remarks and saying he wanted to come in and take everything we had.

“My husband kept screaming back at him, telling him not to take anything else in the house but not to come into our room because there was a child there. The next thing, he saw a machete pierce our bedroom door. In that moment, he made the most difficult decision of his life.

“He told me to stand near the window with our child and jump. So I did, with him in my arms. Right after that, my husband let go of the door, ran to the window and jumped.

“We ran to a neighbor’s house screaming for help. There was blood everywhere. In that moment we didn’t know it but I had broken my pelvis and my husband had deep lacerations and cuts on his legs. .”

The distraught mother, who says the home invasion left her ‘traumatised’, suffered fractures to her pelvis and deep gashes on her thighs which required stitches. She also broke her elbow in the fall which required surgery.

She is currently struggling to even walk, and is undergoing physiotherapy.

And horrifying pictures showed how her partner was left with a huge gash on his leg after he jumped from a bedroom window and was cut by smashed glass from the kitchen window on the ground below.

Despite the break-in, the family says valuables such as wallets, cell phones and game consoles were left in the bedroom when the suspects fled, and nothing of value was taken.

They claim the police told them they could go back home when they were released from hospital, but they were left too scared to return, with three suspects currently out on bail.

“In that moment, honestly, it was a matter of survival,” said the mother. “My husband told me to jump when he saw the knife.

“It is not an easy decision to jump, but we thought that what happened to us could be worse. I jumped out of fear, nothing was going to happen to my child.

“We’re scared. We never want to go back to the house. We don’t know what to do or where to go. We’ve had nightmares in the hospital. Like, if I hear the sound of the trolley, it’s like they are coming back.

“We are at a loss as to why we are. If they were there to rob the house, why was nothing taken?”

Police in Greater Manchester have confirmed that three men, aged between 19 and 27, were arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of burglary. They have since been released on bail pending enquiries

It is currently understood that there is currently little evidence to suggest that the incident was targeted. Anyone with information is being asked to contact police immediately.

A GMP spokesman said: “We are continuing to investigate a reported burglary in Dukinfield in the early hours of August 23. Within hours of receiving the report, our officers had arrested three men aged 19 and a 27-year-old on suspicion of burglary.Three have since been bailed as inquiries continue, and detectives have further analyzed all available evidence.

“We are still in close contact with the family to provide them with all relevant updates and to keep them informed of ongoing action. Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact officers on 101 and quoting 321 login on 23/08/24.”
