Islamists are in control of Britain now

Suella Braverman’s comments come a day after Sir Lindsay Hoyle sparked a fierce backlash over the Gaza ceasefire vote – Paul Grover for The Telegraph

Islamists now in charge of Britain, it has been said by Suella Braverman after the Commons Speaker admitted that it was wrong protocol to ignore security threats to MPs.

In an article for The Telegraph, Mrs Braverman, the former home secretary, said Britain was “walking into a ghettoised society” which threatened free expression.

Her comments come a day after Sir Lindsay Hoyle sparked a fierce backlash over a ceasefire vote in Gaza by allowing a vote on a Labor amendment, which led to accusations he gave to extremists.

Sir Lindsay said it broke convention to allow MPs to vote on the widest possible range of amendments, citing threats politicians had received over their stance on Israel and Gaza.

On Thursday, Sir Lindsay admitted he had made the “wrong decision” in his bid to protect MPs as he fights to keep his job.

However, Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt, Leader of Commons, warned on Thursday that changes to Commons procedures risked undermining democracy and giving in to extremist intimidation.

Mrs Braverman, who sacked Mr Sunak after she accused police of “playing favourites” with pro-Palestinian protesters, accused Labor leader Keir Starmer in accused Sir Keir Starmer, the Labor leader, of being “stuck” by extremists and “taking the Speaker hostage” with his “grubby backroom deal” on Labour’s reform.

“The truth is that the Islamists, the Islamists and the anti-Semites are now in charge,” she wrote. “They’ve bullied the Labor Party, they’ve bullied our institutions, and now they’ve bullied our country.”

The former home secretary accused political leaders of “burying their heads in the sand”, preferring to believe in the “allure” of a thriving multicultural society and fearing they would be called racist if he challenged them. .

“But there is no change in the law, mass extremism proudly parades itself, campuses are still dangerous places for Jews, and Labor is still rotten to the core,” she said.

On Thursday, Mr Sunak said he was “deeply concerned” by the scenes in the Commons, adding: “I think the important point here is that we shouldn’t let extremists intimidate us into changing the way in which Parliament works”.

By Thursday afternoon, more than 67 MPs had signed a motion declaring no confidence in Sir Lindsay. Stephen Flynn, leader of the Deputies of the SNP, and some Tory rebels trying to oust the Speaker by forcing a vote of no confidence.

In his apology to the House of Commons on Thursday, the Speaker said: “I am guilty because… I have a duty of care which I do to protect people.

“It’s the defense that made me make the wrong decision, but I don’t apologize [for] the danger that all the Members are currently facing. Yesterday I had serious meetings with the police on the issues and threats to us politicians as we go to an election.”

His comments came amid growing concerns for the safety of MPs, some of whom have been threatened and have had protests at their homes.

Mrs. Braverman claimed that while she may have been fired for speaking out against what she called the appeasement of Islamists, she said she would do it again.

This was “because we have to wake up to what we are sleeping in: a ghettoized society where free expression and British values are diluted. When Sharia law, the Islamic mob and the anti-Semites take over communities,” she said.

“We must overcome the fear of the Islamophobic label and speak truthfully. Lots of hand-wringing and apologizing. When we turned a blind eye to fanatics we have this terrible situation: it must be stopped.”

Her comments come after William Shawcross, the independent reviewer of the Prevent counter-terrorism programme, warned in an interview with the Telegraph that the Government was not effectively tackling Islamic extremism, leading to an increased threat to safety of the public.

Referring to Mr Shawcross’s warning, Mrs Braverman said it was vital to counter attacks on the Prevent program – which requires councils, police and schools to identify potential extremists – by campaign groups labeled “Islamophobic” and “racist on them.”

Mrs Braverman, who published Mr Shawcross’s review of Prevent last year, said: “We need to tackle the cultural horror we have of young Islamists, where they are a threat, to put them on the programme.

“The Government has failed if 75 per cent of MI5’s caseload is Islamic terrorism but the proportion of Islamic referrals to Prevent is only 11 per cent and falling. It’s not Islamophobic to challenge Islamic followers – it’s a civic duty.”

She backed Mr Shawcross’s proposal to issue guidance to schools to stop blasphemy laws being introduced by the “back door” and exploited by extremists to silence critics and stop criticism ” absolutely legal” on religions, including Islam.

It follows high-profile cases including that of Batley Grammar School where a teacher was driven out of his school by an “extremist mob” and into hiding after showing pupils a satirical image of the Prophet Mohammed.

“We cannot allow teachers to be kept out of schools because a picture of Mohammed was shown, or children to be reprimanded for accidentally scuffing a Koran,” she wrote. “In this country, it is completely legal to criticize any religion or God. One may agree passionately, but it is not criminal.”
