by Autumn/Winter is a few months away, but soon we’ll see how the fashion week catwalks affect our wardrobes. And, as ever, the trends will affect our beauty too – and naturally the runways were full of hairstyles and make-up looks to inspire us.
The good news is that there’s something for everyone – whether you’re looking for a new way to update your signature red or want an easy alternative to special occasion make-up. For those looking to refresh their makeup bag, Christian Louboutin Beauty’s new global makeup artist, Morgane Martini, has this advice: “Stay in your comfort zone and change it up a bit. Instead of black eyeliner, go for a burgundy, gray or silver.” That way, you can keep it still classic and subtle, and “taking up to have more fun with make-up”.
According to her, makeup is about balance. You can play with bold colours, shimmering textures or stick to neutral colours, but keeping the whole face harmonious is key to ensure it looks polished and grown up. “I always make sure there’s a fresh element, so if I’m going heavy on the eyes and lips, the skin will look really fresh,” says Martini. “That means almost no powder so the skin breathes and looks real.”

THE TREND: Think pink
Breaking away from its saccharine sweet story, AW24’s take on pink feels much louder with asymmetric, organic shapes as seen at Dior with Peter Philips (left) and Bach Mai.
“The beauty of color is that there are a million ways to interpret it,” says Martini, who counts pink as one of her favorite colors. Use it in place of your classic black butterfly flick for an unexpected flash of colour, and wear a fresh complexion to keep it grown up.
In the evening, do it ala Dior by dabbing on a cream blush or pink pigment (Philips used Mehron’s Paradise Paint) just in the inner corners to dress up the eyes.

THE TREND: Divine Sparkle
Before you dismiss the make-up trend as a look reserved for teenagers at Glastonbury, let’s look at the sophisticated make-up by Christian Cowan and Thom Browne (left).
Adding a tiny sparkling crystal to the edge of your lashline or just under your eyeliner is an easy way to create party-ready makeup without glitter eyeshadow. If you’re ready to dial up the drama, Vivetta offers plenty of inspiration.

THE TREND: HAND REDS
A good red lip is basically a beauty version of the Little Black Dress, versatile for all occasions no matter your age or skin tone.
Martini prefers a matte texture for winter, such as Christian Louboutin Beauty Rouge Stiletto Lumi Matte lipstick in Rouge Louboutin, because ‘the colder weather will make it better’. Make it the talking point this season with a richly pigmented lip on a luminous base without blush (as seen on Richard Quinn, left), contour or fluttery lashes (try a boyish brow, don’t) for a look that’s truly modern.

THE TREND: SOFT METAL
It’s easy to veer into dressy territory with glitz, but metallics provide the same amount of drama that still feels sophisticated.
“Go for one color and blend it softly across the eyelids with your ring finger,” says Martini, who recommends anchoring it with mascara. Golds (as seen by Jason Wu, left, and Chanel) and coppers work beautifully across all complexions, especially those with warm undertones, while cool silvers are great for a nineties feel. You can also use it as an extra thin eyeliner, which Martini describes as “super chic”.

THE TREND: BEFORE WINTER
As the evenings get longer, nothing beats winter more than a blush. Moving away from the ‘sunkissed’ look of summer (where color is applied across the nose and across the cheeks), blush will be seen higher on the cheek next season for a “natural, fresh glow”, says Martini.
“I always end up with whatever is left on the brush and I go over the eyelids and a little bit on the temples,” she explains. Buff it gently with a dense base brush so the color blends seamlessly into the skin. Keep it key with a tinted lip balm, or dab on a lipstick that’s a shade deeper than your blush for a romantic finish, as seen on Molly Goddard (left) with make-up artist Lisa Eldridge.
