First Lady Jill Biden
The first couple welcomed the First Lady of Kenya Rachel Ruto and the President of Kenya William Ruto on the steps of the White House. For the event, Jill Biden wore a glimmering sapphire column gown by Sergio Hudson, which featured hand-embroidered embellishments such as sequins, crystals and bugle beads.
Vice President Kamala Harris
Harris took on Rinn’s dramatic look in a deep green floor-length column dress with a tailored train and a plunging back Rinn jacket, embellished with a gold flower brooch by ChloĆ©. ChloĆ© creative director Chemena Kamali designed the look.
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wore a caftan with ornate detailing for the White House State Dinner for Kenya. Clinton previously made a similar silhouette for an April State Dinner for Japan at the White House.
Natalie Biden
Natalie Biden, the President’s granddaughter and first lady, wore this slim and refined long-sleeved white dress with intricate beading detailing on the neckline during the White House State Dinner for Kenya.
Huma Abedin
Huma Abedin, a former campaign staffer for Hillary Clinton, chooses a simple look with this black, sleeveless column dress with draped fabric detailing on the neckline.
Old Penn
Sean Penn wore a classic black suit with a white button down shirt and black tie. He was joined by Ann Lee, co-founder and head of charity Penn’s Community Organized Relief Effort.

The White House State Dinner for Kenya follows the couple’s White House State Dinner for Japan in April. A State Dinner for Kenya around the beginning of summer was themed, with several flower arrangements and vibrant colors decorating the White House. Food items prepared by executive chef Cris Comerford included lobster, smoked short ribs and a homemade white chocolate basket. Musician Brad Paisley performed during the evening’s proceedings.
