A wannabee ‘gangster’ was told to ‘come down a peg or two’ by a judge after he flew into a jealous rage and strangled his ex-girlfriend in front of her two-year-old daughter.
Jack Brenan, also known as Jack Brennan, ‘f*****gs**g’ his victim through gritted teeth as he held her by the throat, reports Wales Online. The 26-year-old then bombarded his ex-partner with calls and messages after the horrific attack.
In court, as he was being sentenced, his new girlfriend supported him. But the judge questioned why anyone would want to be in a relationship with a repeat domestic violence offender who has ‘little man syndrome’.

The judge described Brennan as an ‘arrogant’ man who ‘thinks he’s a gangster’. Prosecutor Dean Pulling told Swansea Crown Court that the victim began dating Brenan in February 2023 and ended the relationship after about 11 months due to ‘infidelity and jealous behaviour’.
After Brenan found an old dating profile she used on the app Tinder, he became angry. He went to the victim’s home in Llanelli on January 30 this year and let himself in, shouting threats as he went up the stairs towards the victim, who was on the phone to her brother.
Mr Pulling said: “Using a firm grip, he grabbed her by the throat and pushed his face into her, calling her through gritted teeth and pushed her into the bathroom. through his throat, causing her to fall to the floor, he began throwing money at her and told her to buy a new camera, pointing to Ring’s previously damaged doorbell.
“She managed to get up and tried to push him out. Her two-year-old daughter was present on the landing and was crying because she could see what was happening. The victim put the child in a room bed but the defendant then kicked the child. gate at the door, causing further distress.”
Brenan then left the scene and shortly afterwards the victim’s brother, who heard the attack on the phone, arrived at the address to find his sister and niece in dire straits. There were red strangulation marks on the victim’s neck.
This did not stop Brenan’s abuse. In the weeks that followed he bombarded his ex with calls and messages, threatening to send ‘a couple of boys down there’ and put a brick through her window.
He was arrested on February 17 and issued a domestic violence protection notice which prohibited him from contacting the victim. He ignored this and sent abusive messages threatening to upload videos of the victim online and ‘burn the street’.
Brenán threatened to go to his mother’s house, and said to him: “F*** everybody’s house, it’s your neighbor’s, and your mother’s.” He warned her not to be a ‘grass’, telling her ‘I know where everyone lives’ and if he was caught he would ‘take it out’ on her family.
Brenan was charged with willful strangulation, witness intimidation, coercive and controlling behaviour, and criminal damage. The latter two charges were dropped, resulting in a mistake in the prison where Brenan was remanded.
Believing all charges had been dropped, the jailer released Brenan. After being informed of the mistake and asked to surrender, Brenan refused and instead went on holiday in the West Country.
He was eventually arrested at a service station in the area. Brenan admitted to strangulation, witness intimidation and breach of bail.
He had 41 previous offenses on his record including numerous driving offences, as well as battery and criminal damage against an ex-partner in 2019. In that incident he put a knife in her living room door and slashed her mattress and shower curtain as well like a threat. slit his throat.
“He thinks he’s a gangster, doesn’t he, because we should be afraid of him,” said Judge Geraint Walters. “He’s not a gangster, of course, but he thinks he is.
“He’s childish. He says things like, ‘I’m going to burn the whole street.’ He’s never obeyed a court order in his life. He thinks he’s above it all.”
Brenan’s barrister, David Singh, admitted his client had a ‘horrendous’ record. The judge continued: “I don’t think he has fulfilled anything, ever.
“He abuses motor vehicles, which is no doubt part of his flashy image, and hits women.” Mr. Singh then mentioned that Brenan has a new girlfriend who was in court to support him.
Judge Walters replied: “Well, I don’t know how many partners he’s had but he’s certainly hit two.
“It takes a certain type of man. It’s usually what I call small man syndrome. The only thing that makes him feel big is being flashy and violent.”
Mr Singh said the strangulation was an ‘instinctive seizure of the throat’ and was ‘not long’. He also said that Brenan has four shops where he employs 10 people and that he wants to continue running the businesses from custody. “
There is another side to this defendant,” Mr Singh told the court.
Sentencing, Judge Walters told Brenan: “I honestly think you are a gangster. An arrogant young man who has an opinion of himself far above what is justifiable.
“You need to come down a peg or two and start behaving like a man, not a teenage bully. You were unjustly released from prison, and when you were asked to comply you booked yourself a holiday.
“It is the height of arrogance.” The judge also said that Brenan was hardly a prisoner of any woman.
Brenan, of Iron Place in Llanelli, was jailed for two years. A 10-year restraining order was also imposed which prevented him from contacting the victim.
